The Houston Texans are the youngest franchise team in the National Football League. In 1997 the Houston Oilers relocated to Nashville becoming the Tennessee Titans and leaving Houston without a football team. As part of a franchise expansion the Houston Texans were formed in 1999 and joined the National Football League in 2002 where they play in the American Football Conference South Division. They currently play in the NRG Stadium which has a capacity of almost 72,000 and was the first NFL stadium to have a retractable roof. The team colors are steel blue, battle red and liberty white and the team mascot is a Spanish fighting bull nicknamed Toro.
The Texans did not make the postseason at all before 2010 in a steep learning curve of professional football. In 2011 they finally won their division for the first time with a 10-6 record. In the Wild Card Playoffs they faced the Cincinnati Bengals and while the first half was quite even the Texans stepped up a gear and completely dominated the final two quarters coming away with a 31-10 win. In the Divisional Playoffs the team was up against AFC North winner Baltimore Ravens. The Texans opened the scoring with a field goal but the Ravens answered with two touchdowns in the first quarter. The Texans tried to fight back in the second quarter scoring a touchdown of their own but it was not enough and the Ravens carried the game 20-13.
The next year followed a similar pattern. A Division win was first on the agenda again facing the Bengals but this time the winning score was much narrower at 19-13. In the Divisional Playoffs it would be Tom Brady and his New England Patriots who stopped their advance as Houston went down 28-41. Four seasons later in 2016 the pattern repeated for the third time. A narrow Division win was followed by success in the Wild Card Playoffs, this time a convincing 27-14 win against the Oakland Raiders. In the Divisional Playoffs they came up against the Patriots and that man Tom Brady again. The Patriots were 14-3 up after the fourth quarter and never lost their lead despite a spirited fightback by the Texans in the second quarter. The Pats dominated the final two quarters and finished the game 34-16 winners. The 2018 season saw another Division win but a Wild Card Playoff loss.
