The Jacksonville Jaguars joined the NFL in 1995 as an expansion team in the American Conference Central Division before moving to the South Division in 2002. The Jaguars play at TIAA Bank Field which has a capacity of almost 68,000. The team colors are black, teal and gold. The team nickname was selected by a fan contest while other names included the Sharks and Stingrays but finally the Jaguars was chosen as the oldest living jaguar in North America was at the Jacksonville zoo.
The team has had some limited success during its time in the NFL. In its first season in 1995 they finished fifth in the division and did not qualify for the postseason. The following year they finished second and then won the Wild Card Playoffs 30-27 in a close game against the Buffalo Bills. That was followed by another win against the Denver Broncos in the Divisional Playoffs. In their first AFC Championship they went down heavily to the Patriots, losing 20-6. The next year the Broncos got their revenge, beating the Jaguars 42-17 in the Wild Card Playoffs.
In 1998 the Jaguars made the postseason for the third straight year after winning their Division for the first time. They then won the Wild Card Playoffs against the Patriots before losing the Divisional Playoffs to the Jets. The next year they did better. After winning their Division again, this time with a 14-2 record in the regular season, they thumped the Dolphins 62-7 in the Divisional Playoffs. Unfortunately they went down 33-14 to the Tennessee Titans in their second AFC Championship.
The team made the postseason just twice in the following fifteen years. In 2005 they lost the Wild Card Playoffs, while in 2007 they lost the Divisional Playoffs, both times to the Patriots. In 2017 they won their Division for the first time in eighteen years before beating the Bills 10-3 in the Wild CArd Playoffs. This set up a meeting with the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Divisional Playoffs. In an incredibly close and high-scoring game the Jaguars eked a 45-42 victory. Next they faced the New England Patriots for the AFC Championship in another very tight game, but the Jaguars couldn't cope with Tom Brady as the Patriots came from behind in the fourth quarter to get a 24-20 win. The Jaguars are a young team in the NFL and fans are hoping for much more in the future.
