This means one game will be at their home and the other away. The inter-conference games consist of four games, divided into two games against teams from the same division within the opposing conference, and the other two games are against the previous year's corresponding divisional rank in the opposing conference's remaining two divisions, for instance, the first-place team in the AFC East plays the first-place team from the NFC North and the NFC South.

In Intra-conference Games, each team plays four against teams from two different divisions during the conference. As mentioned above, each team gets one bye week during the season. In the 17th game, a special matchup against a team from the opposing conference placed in the same division as the previous season occurs; for example, the AFC East champion takes on the NFC East champion. In the final week of the matchup, the teams will witness the intra-divisional matchup.
